[posted on Mon 30th Aug 2010 by Warren] » Comments (0)
With a bumper crowd in attendance for the last home game of the season the Medway Madness took on the Cardiff Eagles in the Plate Final, First Leg as part of the growing Southern Rec Conference.
The whole team would like to express their appreciation for those that attended as it did make for a great atmosphere in the improving Silver Blades Gillingham Ice Bowl.
The game got off to a quick start with a goal from enthuastic rookie Farquhar McAllan at 7:59 unassisted. The lead was doubled by coach Howard at 15:46 with assists from Martin Rider, departing to the Mustangs, and 100 point hero Neil Ratcliffe. The party really started on the third goal just before the period break with a marker from Nick Long, recently celebrating his 100th game played, with assists from Rats and Howie. The dream start was intrupted at 14:14 with a goal from Cardiff's Andrew Lloyd. This saw the period close out 3-1.
The second period was an end to end affair that was only to see one score from the home team, scored by Neil Ratcliffe at 24:26 with an assist from Martin Rider.
With the Madness knowing that a good lead was necessary to take back to Cardiff for the second leg the period plans went wrong with a second goal from Andrew Lloyd bringing the score back to 4-2. There was one final twist with a second goal from Nigel Howard at 57:84 with the assist from Martin Rider, his third on the night.
All in a good win but the Madness will have their work cut out in the second leg in Cardiff as the Eagles will be very keen to win on home ice.
Congratulations to Neil Ratcliffe on 100th point!

The Medway Madness would like to congratulate Neil Ratcliffe on achieving 100 points in one season. The 2009-10 season was Neil's first after moving from the Invicta Knights and he has made a massive impact supporting the team to a number of key wins.
Notching up 1+2 in the Plate Final first leg against Cardiff Eagles too Rats over the ton to score an impressive 66+36=102 from 27 starts, all for only 18 PIM. This tally also saw him crowned as the top scorers from all teams in the Southern Rec Conference Cup.
Congratulations Rats, here's to the next 100!

The Madness would like to offer a massive congratulations to Tony Wood on scoring his 100th career goal for the Madness in the recent Cup win over the Cardiff Eagles. Tony was the first player to pass 100 games played (and is still the highest attendee) and pass 100 points.
Tony is an absolute stalwart of the team and is almost guaranteed to be in the line up for every fixture, with a good points return for those appearances currently on 100g+66a=166 points from 140 starts.
WELL DONE WOODY!
Matt Daubney gets the call!

Following in the footsteps of previous goalies Stu Long and Steve Grout, Madness #1 netminder Matt Daubney has been successful in getting into the Invicta Mustangs squad for the 2010/2011 season.
Matt has played hockey for a while but only moved into the pipes this season which highlights his remarkable progress. In many games Matt have kept the Madness in the fight and he will be much missed next season.
In addition Martin Rider will also be returning to ENL hockey with the Mustangs. Martin has had a very positive influence with the Madness giving us a much needed stability during some very competitive matches.
The Madness would like to wish Martin and Matt all the best for the coming season and are keen to leave the door open should they ever wish to return.
GOOD LUCK GUYS!

Medway Madness resident clothes horse, Farquhar McAllan, is cycling this weekend from London to Paris for charity. Farqs has completed a lot of training for this event, including some impromptu warm weather training in Australia thanks to the Icelandic volanic ash cloud but it does mean that he will miss this weekends game against the Royal Logistics Corps Chiefs, facing off Saturday at 6pm.
Good luck Farqs from all the Madness squad!
